Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

This is where you can find everything that you need to know about year five and how we approach learning.

Who are we?

My name is Miss Moody and I am the Year Five teacher. Mrs Cheetham is our teaching assistant, who will be working with individuals and groups of children throughout the year. Mr Hague will also be with us on a Monday morning and will teach the class on a Thursday afternoon.

Reading!

In Year 5 we love to read! We start each day with a reading session, where we build and deepen our understanding of different content domains. Reading with your child as often as possible is very beneficial. Your child will have an opportunity to change their books in school, linked to their reading level. If your child is reading at home, they will earn a raffle ticket each week for our prize draw in our Celebration Assembly.

P.E.

The children will be doing PE on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days. For health and safety reasons, your child should not wear jewellery on these days, especially earrings. Due to weather, PE lessons may be indoors or outdoors and this can change regularly. Please ensure children have appropriate clothing for both, including trainers.

Homework.

Homework is sent home on a Friday and is due back the following Thursday. This will include a list of spellings, which they will be tested on the following week and a timestable grid. Please encourage your child to learn the list of spellings, as it will be expected for them to use these within their writing throughout the year.

To further help your child with their maths fluency, they have access to Timestable Rockstars. If you need any help with this, or require your child’s login details, please ask. Each week, a child will be chosen to be celebrated in our celebration assembly on Friday.

If you have any questions about this year, then please do not hesitate to ask any of the Year 5 staff, who are more than happy to help on any matter big or small!
