My name is Mrs Wright and I will be the Year 4 teacher this year. We are lucky to have the fabulous Mrs Bailey as our teaching assistant who will supporting and working with individuals and groups of children throughout the week. Mr Hague, Miss Bailey and Ms Saynor will also be teaching the class throughout the week too!
Reading in Year 4
In Year Four we love to read and talk about books! We start each day with a reading session, where we build and deepen our understanding of various texts. At the end of each day, the class will listen to our chosen class book. Pupils will be encouraged to talk about and recommend the books they have read to each other too every week.
Reading with your child are often as possible is very beneficial and essential for progress and it is an expectation that your child reads five times a week. Your child will have opportunity to change their books in schools, linked to their reading age.
PE
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days. For health and safety reasons, your child should not wear jewellery on these days, especially earrings. Due to the weather, PE lessons may be indoors or outdoors and this can change regularly.
Times tables
This year, our class will become experts at their times tables in preparation for out MTC in June. We will learn all our times tables up to 12x12 and practice daily. Pupils will be expected to use Times Tables Rockstar to help them practice their times tables regularly at home and we will all be aiming to turn our maps green and move up through our Rock statuses as quickly as possible! To facilitate this, each child has access to Times Table Rock Stars via their own unique login and we will check and celebrate everyone’s achievements and progress weekly!
Spellings
Spellings will be tested every Thursday and new spellings will be sent home on a Friday as part of their homework. Please can children practise the spellings by saying them and writing them out using the look, cover, write, check method or using a spelling activity from the grid provided.
Homework
Homework is set every Friday. This will include our weekly spelling patterns and words that the children will then be tested on the following week and there will be a short task based on the times table the class are practising. There is also an expectation that children reading daily and practice their times tables daily on TTRS.
Wider Curriculum
In the wider curriculum, your child will be provided with their knowledge organiser that gives children all the essential knowledge they must have to deepen their understanding in school. If your child completes any additional work based on our topics e.g. finding out their own facts through research, making a poster or makes something based on our topic, please bring them in to share with the class or tag the class on twitter! We would love to see what you have done!
