We love inspiring our children to write and tell stories…

Welcome to Foundation Stage
Here is you where can find everything that you need to know about Foundation Stage and have a look at what we have been learning.
Who are we?
Our foundation stage leader and teacher is Mrs Nettleship, Miss Best is our other foundation stage teacher and we are assisted by Mrs Yould and Mrs Butterfield.
P.E.
Our PE sessions are on a Friday. On this day your child can come to school in a PE kit and trainers (After October half term). For health and safety reasons your child should not wear jewellery on these days, especially earrings.
Reading
Please spend time reading with your child every day.
We love to read and spend time reading to and listening to your children read in school every day. Your child’s Read, Write, Inc. reading book is specifically linked to the phonics that they are currently learning in school. Please make sure that they bring their reading book and reading record to school each day so we can read with them. Each time your child has a recorded read at home, they will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into our half termly prize draw.
On a Monday, your child’s library book will be changed. These are books to promote a love of reading, which have an age appropriate content, but will need reading to your child, as they do not match up to our Read, Write, Inc. Phonics scheme.
If you have any questions about anything at all, then please do not hesitate to ask any of the Foundation Stage staff, who are more than happy to help on any matter big or small!

After our wonderful history day based on the Queens Jubilee, we discovered that Mrs Butterfield’s dad was a Queen’s guard. What an amazing fact. We have loved drawing pictures of him.
…we have read the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, moved around our outdoor area like butterflies and created artwork in the style of Matisse’s The Snail. We have also been patiently waiting for our class caterpillars to complete their transformation into butterflies.
This week pupils across school received awards for lots of reasons including helping others and applying their knowledge of multiplication facts in Maths.
This half terms reading winners are from Reception and Year 3! They chose books to keep with Ms Steele based on their interests. Keep up the reading Royston St Johns. We are a very proud school.
We had wonderful ‘History Day’ in school celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. We all looked at different areas of historical study in the morning and celebrated with a huge street style party in the afternoon complete with cucumber sandwiches.
The wonderful Mrs Bun came to visit from Wakefield Cathedral today to look at Palm Sunday. The children were beautifully behaved, as always, and really engaged with the assembly.
We had great fun on pancake day exploring how pancakes are made, discussing which toppings are healthy, and we also found out why we have pancake day
