As part of year 5’s History topic about mining in the local area, we took a trip to the amazing National Coal Mining Museum.
The children were fabulous historians, taking a tour underground to learn about mining, the conditions miners worked in, and the changes that occurred within the mining community over time.
We took part in workshops to learn about how mining families lived in Victorian times, as well as understand the role of pit Ponies. We met: Eric, Ernie, Buddy and Finn.
