PSHE

Our hope at Royston St John the Baptist Primary school is that our PSHE curriculum will enable children to gain the fundamental principles of being happy, becoming successful and productive members of society both academic and personal, to be able take care of themselves, to have resilience and to ask for help when needed. We want our children to leave Royston St John the Baptist Primary prepared for the wider world, having key skills that will assist them in their lives to help them thrive as individuals, family members and members of society.
Our PSHE curriculum has been planned to meet the needs of all individuals and to mirror the needs of our school community, taking into account views from staff, pupils and parents which has enabled a broad and balanced curriculum to be established. A key part of our curriculum is that it is flexible, and it will address topics/issues that arise anytime during the year.
Our approach to the PSHE curriculum ensures that it is most often taught discretely outside of topic time to ensure depth and rigour, however there are times where PSHE is taught through other parts of our curriculum as some topics often touch upon PSHE themes. We have incorporated story books into our PSHE teaching where appropriate as reading enhances our curriculum.
