Pupils enter our school in the Reception Class in the year in which they will turn five years old; they follow the current Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum(EYFS). Children who have attended playgroup or a nursery setting will be familiar with this curriculum. Learning will still be promoted through structured play and will cover the following:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PS&ED)
  • Communication and Language (CL)
  • Physical Development (PD).

  • Literacy (L)
  • Mathematics (M)
  • Understanding the world (UW)
  •  Expressive arts and design (EAD)

The categories for these specific areas aim to reflect the holistic nature of young children's learning and the 'subjects' that this learning will eventually slot into in the school curriculum, such as art, music, science, design and technology.

Parents are invited to an Induction Meeting for new Parents before their child starts our school. New Foundation Stage (FS2) pupils spend an Induction morning in the school with a chance to stay with their Parent for a School Lunch.

Then during the first half term there is a Foundation Curriculum Meeting for parents. This introduces parents to how their children are being introduced to phonics and reading within our setting.

Further information on the new EYFS can be found on the Foundation Years Website.

A handy downloadable information sheet for parents is available here.
